Book Report 3

Collective Memory by Doug Keyes is a case where, while the reproductions are excellent and I am very glad to have the edition in my collection, the design of the book is (for me) not in keeping with the the concept of the work. I would have liked to see a design with a bit more substance and creativity, that is a tribute to "The Book".

  1. The work here already has a strong concept, making the book about a "tribute to the The Book" would have changed the subject. I think that would have made this book less focused. The "substance and creativity" is in the work and the book conveys that well. Abe Morells work is a tribute to the book while Keyes' work is a tribute to ideas and memory.

  2. Point very well taken. Perhaps then, I just don't feel the design and object fully support and showcase the beauty of the work.
